If you made it down to Destinations travel show at Earls Court last week, chances are you stuck your best travel moments from 2009 on the massively successful Lonely Planet TravelWall.
The wall, part of the Lonely Planet stand designed by our incredibly talented Graham (“It’s the biggest thing I’ve ever designed!”), created a fantastic buzz, with hundreds of stickers covering practically every available space by Sunday afternoon.
What a well-travelled bunch the Destinations crowd turned out to be. The Cherry contribution? A mere day trip to Amsterdam!
Fun was had by all as we enjoyed a little get together with the team at Lonely Planet. The most significant news of the day is that the Cherry Kingpins remain undefeated despite a rather shakey start to the evening’s entertainment. Needless to say the karaoke inspired many moments of hilarity that have been banished to the Cherry archive forever, this way we spare our blushes and more importantly your ears! Well, maybe one clip couldn’t hurt…
This year we’ve gone for digital motherboard chic…
(for the record, the last time we saw anything this ‘Fresh’ he was dittying about smelly cab drivers whilst fortuitously relocating from the basketball courts of West Philadelphia to a palatial mansion in Beverly Hills…)
The range of 2009's Cherry Christmas cards
*If you like your Christmas funky and fresh with an 80’s-retro-twist and you don’t think you’re on our Christmas card list get in touch and we’ll fire one of these bad bad boys your way…
When you get yours, come back and see us at ‘Baubles’
Now we’re pleased to announce that – having gone head-to-head with the so-called media agency industry Top 10 – the Maxus website came out top of the pile in a recent review in MediaWeek.

We’re really happy for our client (and are giving ourselves a pat on the back too!)
A while back we were approached and asked if we would donate a prize to the Tesco Magazine’s ‘Mum of the Year’ award. We looked into the award – every year Tesco looks out for women who’ve shown incredible bravery and dedication or who have campaigned tirelessly to help others or inspired others beyond belief – and decided we wanted to be involved.
The winner, Iris Billing, is a phenomenal woman. She founded the charity Tanya’s Courage in memory of her daughter, who very sadly passed away in 2005.

Tesco’s knew that Iris really wanted a new brand and website for the charity, which is where we got involved – providing both, free of charge, for the worthy winner. The new site has just gone live, it’s well worth a look. Keep up the great work Iris and team!
Here’s the Cherry team looking particularly ghoulish before heading out to the Opal Nera Halloween Ball last week. We were special guests of our friends at Inspirit, who exclusively distribute Opal Nera in the UK. In case it’s not obvious; Graham, Mark and Adrian went as the menacing Droogs from cult classic ‘A Clockwork Orange’, Sarah took to the skies on her broom as a wicked witch and Tom, er, well we can only assume he was involved in some kind of horrific construction accident! Needless to say, the morning after we all felt like we’d been involved in some kind of horrific accident…
The latest issue of You+360, The Innovation Issue, has just hit the streets. The magazine, produced by Cherry for 360 Training, is packed full of the latest thinking from the world of training and development.
The issue was borne out of the current economic climate, and the belief that innovative approaches in business can make all the difference. The features covers issues such as breaking down the barriers to innovation, learning from the true innovators in business, and how to take calculated risks.
We use their software to create and send campaigns for many of our clients, and they’ve picked up on the redesign we recently unleashed for Lonely Planet’s weekly Seize The Days email.
It’s a design we’re really happy with, and one we feels sums up the fun, inspirational nature of the email content nicely. It’s good to see others are appreciating it too!

This week we get a mention in top industry journal, New Media Age, for our work on a new online game that has just been launched by Lonely Planet. We have to admit, we had a lot of fun with this one.

Last week we were special guests of our friends at Lonely Planet in their London office’s first ‘Hack Day’. Inspired by the practise first used by Yahoo, the whole team at Lonely Planet was briefed to down their usual work schedule in order to ‘mass brainstorm’. The overall goal being to come up with improvements to their flagship range of Country and Regional Guidebooks.
Ready for briefing
Our job was to help the team develop and mock up their ideas for presentation to the rest of the company at the end of the 24hr session. With prizes at stake, the pressure was on!
Mark gets his hands dirty with some creative on the fly
The whole gamut of ideas came out, from the common-sense all the way through to the weird and wonderful. We made lots of new friends and got to eat pizza and drink beer, whilst doing design work. What could be better than that?

At the end of it all, to paraphrase the immortal Pat Sharpe, ‘prizes were won and we had a whole lotta fun!’ Now we can’t wait to see the all new, improved Guidebooks.
