You may recall a while back, we hosted the Cherry Cocktail Challenge in the studio, pitching four teams against each other to create and brand a cocktail for the D&AD New Blood event.

We filmed the whole thing, so sit back and enjoy the results. We certainly did!

After returning to France following a 6 week stint with Cherry, our recent French intern Magali sent us this rather lovely photo. Of course we say lovely but it actually it fills us with jealousy to know she is now basking in the sunshine of the South of France before starting another year at university in Bordeaux! We look forward to our next meeting and hope to welcome her back to Cherry Towers very soon.

Cherry’s AGM – Amsterdam, 2009

Having had a great year (despite the doom and gloom still out there) we at Cherry decided to give ourselves a well-earned break to the continent for our AGM. Amsterdam was the destination of choice; it’s a fantastic city with a real passion for design. It’s also a great place to unwind – plenty of canals, wonderful architecture and a welcome lack of speeding motorists (not to mention the extracurricular activities on offer).

On arrival we visited Ewald’s typography studio. It’s a treasure trove for creative types with an interest in typography, we were in our element – we couldn’t resist sharing a few photos…

The experience took everyone back to the heady days of Art School. Perhaps it was this nostalgia that was responsible for the subsequent ’studentesque’ behaviour later in the evening? We’ll never know…

All in all a fantastic time was had, with some fairly sheepish looking faces back in the office on Monday morning.

We recently extended our association with the London College of Communication by getting involved in their Mentoring Scheme. This gives students the opportunity to come in regularly to discuss their projects and portfolios, and to gain insight into the inner workings of a creative studio.

Passing on knowledge and skills to young people is an essential part of business in any sector, but in the creative world, it resonates just a little more than most. Making that transition from design school to the professional studio can be a tough leap, and is reliant on companies giving young people the chance to take placements and internships to start their portfolio building process.

But having this involvement with new talent has real two-way benefits. Aside from the practical benefits of having access to new talent at the LCC, having the regular injection of enthusiasm and ideas from students helps to keep us on our toes too.
