The cherries are exited to go to the London Transport Museum this weekend. So if any of you are curious to find out what transport has to do with info graphics we might see you at their new exhibitionPainting by Numbers. This poster display shows data visualisations from the 20s and 30s promoting London transport. And – believe it or not – the whole thing is for free!

This lunchtime the Cherry clan are going to stretch their legs and head to the Mick Rock Retrospective at Idea Generation on Redchurch Street. His photos capture the rock-n-roll kings and queens of the 70’s and beyond, in a career that spans four decades. Legend!

“London in the late sixties and early seventies was a hotbed of creative interchange. The prevalent hippie philosophy united all manner of artists, musicians, film makers, models, designers, actors, writers, and photographers into a unique and fertile community. My timing was excellent. Curiosity and circumstance drew me into the flame of rock n’ roll.” Mick Rock

Big thanks to all that braved the winter chill and joined in with our well attended mulled wine and murder walk. Cherry friends new and old prepared for the cold by warming up with Aaron’s home made mulled wine, before being led out into the streets of the East by the very knowledgeable Ed Glinert.

The tour brought to life the slums and treacherous conditions of the 18th and 19th Centuries, as well as the life and crimes of the notorious Kray twins just 50 years ago. We also survived a few hecklers passing by with cries of “It’s a pack of lies!”

The night came to a close in the Pride of Spitalfields, a small, authentic East End boozer, which our large group filled up and took over for the late evening hours.

The view from the roof of Cherry towers is a little whiter than usual today. The novelty hasn’t worn off just yet, we are hoping we get around to building a snowman before it does!

Yesterday we had a lunchtime gallery ganders at Ever Young by James Barnor currently on at Rivington Place. The blurb goes a little like this…

“Through the medium of portraiture, Barnor’s photographs represent societies in transition: Ghana moving towards its independence and London becoming a cosmopolitan, multicultural metropolis. Introducing a newly preserved body of work from the late 1940s to the early 1970s, the exhibition showcases fashion portraits in glorious colour, social documentary, and street and studio photographs with elaborate backdrops, many commissioned for Drum magazine.”

Watch out for London in the swinging sixties as you have never seen it before and a rather dexterous baby doing press ups! The info graphics are rather good too! The exhibition closes on Saturday 27th November so only the speedy should make their way to Rivington Place!

The Kemistry Gallery, just round the corner from us, has recently been invaided by a ceramic army of the ‘Brosmind’ varity.

The Brosmind Army is a project created by Barcelona’s Brosmind studio, comprising a growing army of limited edition ceramic sculptures. Each member of the army has its own unique features; a distinctive facial expression, unique tattoo and identification tag.

There are several plattoons of 50 soldiers categorized by their differing headware. To change each soldiers expression you are invited to turn the hat which will change there mood. 

Brosmind is an illustration studio based in barcelona founded by brothers Juan and Alejandro Mingarro in 2006.  Their style can be recognized for its humor and fantasy.

You can head down and meet the army for free from 25th June – 31st July.

If you’re in the area take a stroll to Club Row, just off Rechurch St and check out the super-sized work of Belgian street artist Roa. Wonder what this giant squirrel can see up there?

Here is another little gem from our backyard. The Whitechapel’s latest exhibition “Where Three Dreams Cross: 150 Years of Photography From India, Pakistan and Bangladesh” (not a snappy title I will admit!) is a lovely feast of imagery that celebrates the last 150 years of Photography in the subcontinent. From candid portraiture to reportage there is a little bit of everything and a lot of work – some 400 pieces in fact! Best of all entrance to the Whitechapel is free, yes FREE from 11am-1pm every Sunday.

But wait…. there’s more.

With the weather now starting to pick up a little (I am whispering this to avoid tempting fate) Brick Lane market is thriving and lets face it nothing stirs the appetite more than a nosey at some art, a mosey round the corner and an array of street food. I had spicy meatballs and watched a man make udon noodles from scratch… Top class Sunday!
